Rumen Skorchev, Pandora` s Box VI, 2000, Lithograph, 52 x 38 cm.

Born October 7th 1932 in the town of Targovishte.
1950 – 1952 – Worked in the Pernik mines.
1952 – 1957 – Studied and graduated as a park-engineer.
1958 – 1964 – Studied and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia where he majored in book illustration and was later made professor in 1984.
1979 – Scholarship student of the Koryu Kikin Japanese Foundation.
1982 and 1994 – His illustrations were included in the ‘Who`s Who in Graphic Art’, dedicated to 330 contemporary graphic artists.
1990 – His works were included in the two-volume publication of 300 contemporary graphic artists, issued by the International Art Center in Kyoto, Japan.

Holds over 40 international and national awards, the most important of which are:

1970 Gold medal at the II International Print Biennale, Florence, Italy;
1972,1975 First Prize for the Best Childrens’ Illustration, Bulgaria;
1973 Gold medal, IV Biennale of Illustration, Bratislava, Slovakia;
1974 Grand Prix, IV Triennale of Drawing in Wroclaw, Poland;
1974,1987 Special Annual Award for Graphic Art in Bulgaria;
1978 Award of the Ministry of Culture of Romania at the II International Triennale of Balkan states, Bucharest;
1982 Award of the International Print Biennale in Listowel, Ireland;
1989 Silver Medal, International Book Fair, Leipzig, Germany.
