Veda and Meda Rives

Veda M. Rives and Meda R. Rives are artists and identical twin sisters who established Mirror
Image Press as their studio where they pursue interests in Printmaking, Handmade Paper,
Artists’ Books, and BookEnvirons. They create artworks both independently and collaboratively
which have been exhibited nationally and internationally.  Career highlights from 2009 include
a page from the Magnolia Series being selected for the international juried show, Friends of
Dard Hunter Tokyo Exhibition: A Selection of Handmade Paper Art at the Ozu Washi Gallery
and the Oji Paper Museum in Japan.  Magnolia Scroll Environ, was featured in the Threads:
Interweaving Textu[r]al Meaning exhibition at The Center for Book Arts in New York City. Solo
exhibitions include, BookEnviron: Iowa City, featured at the College Book Arts Association’s first
biennial conference held at the University of Iowa in Iowa City and BookEnviron: Memphis at On
the Street Gallery, Memphis College of Art, Memphis, Tennessee.
Veda M. Rives is Associate Director of Normal Editions Workshop (NEW) in the School of Art
at Illinois State University, in Normal, Illinois. She authored Shared Insights, one of four essays
included in Marks from the Matrix: Normal Editions Workshop Collaborative Limited Edition
Prints 1976 – 2006. Richard D. Finch, Director of NEW and Veda M. Rives served as editors
for this 196-page book. Collections include the China International Publishing Group,
Affairs Division, Beijing, China, and the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana. Veda
earned her MA in Printmaking from Illinois State University; BFA, concentration in Printmaking
and Drawing, from Illinois Wesleyan University; and AA in Art from Lincoln Land Community
College.
Meda R. Rives is an adjunct faculty member at both Eureka College (EC) in Eureka, Illinois and
Heartland Community College (HCC) in Normal, Illinois. She serves as consultant on special
projects at Normal Editions Workshop at Illinois State University. Collections include the White
House, Washington, DC and the Japan Print Association, Saitama, Japan. Meda earned
AA in Art from Lincoln Land Community College, BFA in Printmaking and Painting from Illinois
Wesleyan University, MA in Printmaking from Illinois State University, and MFA in Fibers from
Illinois State University
