Miniprint Annual 2012

IOANNIS MONOGYIOSGreece
He was born in Kavala city of Greece in 1965. He lives and works in Thessaloniki since 1982.
His first active contact with visual art happened, specifically through sculpture, under Konstantinos Balian’s innovation and help, within the “Polyergastiri” group of visual arts in 1984.
Since 1994 he had professionally worked in the fields of ceramics and visual-art constructions.
By the end of 2004 and until the middle of 2008 he worked as chief-editor of the “Yoga World” magazine. During this period he was responsible in organizing two different congresses, in the frame of “Activia” exhibition. The first was “NAMASTE” (building 8 of Thessaloniki HELEXPO, 4th – 7th of May in 2006) and the second the 1st Yoga Congress, the first in Greece, in SEF (Stadium of Peace and Friendship) of Athens (1st – 3rd of December in 2006). In both of these congresses he exhibited some of his visual-art creations.
He has also contributed with some of his writing- works in two books of “Agnosto” publications.
In 2008 he came in touch again with “Polyergastiri” group and he has studied since then under the same artist’s guidance. He has been inspired by the creative spirit of this group for further exploration of new ways of expression.
Using the relevant advices of etcher Ruud Matthes and valuable assistance of engraving teacher Dimitris Karlaftopoulos, he has started to explore the art of linocut without further help. From April to September 2009 he worked, under the guidance of Konstantinos Balian, in traditional byzantine “orofografisis” (ceiling painting) of “trapeza” (refectory), as well of other rooms, of Xiropotamou monastery of Mount Athos.
Today he studies in the “Helios” engraving art workshops, in Neapoli of Thessaloniki, where D. Karlaftopoulos teaches.
He is member of Visual Artists Association of Northern Greece (SKETBE), of contACT- Contemporary Art Club of Thessaloniki and of International Union of Mail-Artists (IUOMA).
